Every person experiences some form of mental health issue. The causes and triggers may be different for each individual, including other people, our physical health, our finances the weather and even our genes; but mental illness and emotional distress are universal. It’s normal to experience low moods, especially when we face challenges in life—and it’s also normal to feel worried by these feelings and to reach out for support. All of us are affected by what happens to us, past and present. When emotions spiral out of control and lead to harmful negative behaviors, this is called mental illness.
